Lions Club of Hyderabad Sadhuram Eye Hospital was built on a belief that eye care should never be limited by affordability. It began not as a hospital plan, but as a deeply personal purpose to serve those living with visual disability and preventable blindness.

What started as a vision to support the visually challenged slowly became a larger mission for the community. In 1968, the foundation was laid through the formation of the Kalavati Sadhuram Alimchand Trust, created with the intention of bringing meaningful and lasting support to those in need of quality eye care.

To make this purpose stronger and more impactful, the Trust joined hands with Lions Club of Hyderabad, an institution widely respected for its humanitarian work and commitment to service. With experienced eye surgeons, service minded leadership, and a shared sense of responsibility, both organisations worked together to create something Hyderabad had not seen before.

In 1974, this effort gave rise to Hyderabad’s first professionally managed sophisticated specialty eye hospital — Lions Club of Hyderabad Sadhuram Eye Hospital. The hospital was inaugurated by Late Sri J. Chokka Rao, then Minister of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, and opened to the public on 16th June 1974.

From the beginning, the purpose was clear. Advanced eye treatment should be available to every patient with dignity, whether they were paying for treatment or receiving care through charitable support.

That principle continues even today. For decades, the hospital has stood as a place where service comes before status, and where restoring sight also means restoring confidence, independence, and hope. More than an institution, it remains a legacy of compassion, trust, and responsibility.
